In Good Form
The yard has been in very good form this month sending out 23 runners which converted into four wins and 13 top four finishes.
Its probably no coincidence that we have finally had some rain and ease in the ground conditions which has definitely helped.
The first to get their head in front was RUSTIC DEACON at the Windsor evening meeting on the eve of Royal Ascot. Ridden by a certain Richard Hughes, owned by Mrs Rita Brown, the improving gelding scored for the third time in succession under a terrific ride from last years championship challenger. Up four pounds for that performance, the handicapper may just be getting on top now.
Having probably needed the run at Sandown in her seasonal reappearance at the beginning of the month, BROUGHTONS SWINGER took a trip to Newbury for the first time to contest the Apprentice Handicap over eleven furlongs. We were pleased to secure the services of Adam Beschizza for the race as his experience paid off in the closing stages to land the odds by half a length.
Able to run without a penalty for the win, Swinger was swiftly turned out six days later at Windsor with Beschizza again in the hot seat. This was a different race altogether with two necks and a head between the first four as they crossed the line, with our filly leading them home. It was another great ride from the jockey, and a fantastic boost for the owners, Broughton Thermal Insulation, and the yard.
Beschizza was rewarded for his efforts with the ride on TURJUMAN at Chepstow in the mile and half handicap two days later. The gelded son of Swain showed signs of improvement when finishing fourth at Newmarket ten days earlier over a furlong further and justified our thoughts when going on to win by a head under another powerful ride to make it 3 from 3 for the young apprentice.
Amongst other notable performances over the month were those of BROUGHTONS PARADIS who has now had 13 top four finishes from her last 14 runs, MAGICALMYSTERYTOUR who finished a good second at Windsor and MARAJAA who had a good third at Newmarket, beaten only half a length.
As we move into July, NOVELLEN LAD heads to Haydock for his first run since winning at Newbury in May, this time partnered by Eddie Ahern in what looks likely to be another good handicap.
